MD Specialist Inc. started in the early 1990's as a landscaping company. Dave took his business knowledge from his days in banking and started an outdoor business of landscaping. He was soon joined by his partner, Michele Petro, who holds a landscape design degree from the University of Maryland. Together, they built a successful landscape design/build company.
Landscape construction soon became Dave's passion. However, during the winter months, he found himself doing historical renovation work in Washington, DC. This work inspired a new desire to learn structural renovation techniques. After three years of working as an apprentice with Restoration Works, Inc., Dave decided to convert his landscaping company into a full-time construction renovation company. Dave claims to "love the detail work involved with making new stuff look old!"
In 2003, Dave took his interests one step further and turned adversity into a challenge when he lost his house to Hurricane Isabelle. He and his wife always loved the look of timber frame, post & beam houses. After going to Maine and learning from the experts, he returned to Maryland, found the local resources he would need for lumber and went to work. After months of honing, carving, sanding, and oiling, the huge timbers were set in place, and construction was well on its way to one of his "dearest projects".
Dave's knowledge and experience has allowed him to take on projects of numerous dimensions. He loves the challenge of each project; whether it be a new kitchen or bath, a porch converted into a four season living room, or a new in-law suite for extended family members.
